Treasurer’s Report: Miranda Figueredo

  • Budget Presented= $14,835.13
  • Teachers get $100\year and LEEP is not included at this time
    • Eren made a motion to vote on adding them
    • Nikki presented the vote and all  approved.

Principal’s Time:  Dr. Karon Webster

  • Not able to attend due to Family Commitment

Volunteer Opportunities: Kelly Williams

  • Safe Routes to School, Field Day, Classroom Help
  • Field Day=Kelly is getting a lot of volunteers.
  • Added to the Neighborhood association meeting and Nikki is setting up a volunteer booth

  • June Board Meeting Vote for end of the meeting $200–Eren

    • 2 City Engineers showed up at the last meeting
    • Cameron is working on creating maps for bike\walk for one mile radius
      • Goal is to have it ready by beginning of next year
    • Completed 105 surveys.
      • Kim is pushing them through where the data is entered into a nationwide database.
      • 4 pages of comments that will be mapped to show specific problems
    • Action Plan for the mini grant is due 9/30

    • Karon to put in a work order asking for cost

  • Budget Presented=total balance is $17,103.47. Projected=$16,931.39

Principal’s Time:  Dr. Karon Webster

  • Working with the district to add speed bumps to parking lot and extending drop off zone
    • Karon to work with bus drivers to move during drop off
    • Need volunteers to help with drop off monitoring

New Business:

  • Siobhan O’Malley–Family Resource Coordinator from Metropolitan Family Service
  • Joe Krumm–School Bond Presentation
    • Last bond built the current school.
    • State Funds are distributed based on enrollment while Capital bonds are based on votes and goes right back into our school
      • State Funds bring in extra teachers
    • Major Issues to address:
      • Renovate/remodel school as old as 90 years old
      • Address security, safety, earthquake prep
        • Locks will be added to the inside of classroom doors
        • Add more cameras
        • More fencing
        • Security readers
      • Address unfunded maintenance
      • Overcrowding
        • Will help with more space but not more teachers
        • 4th possible high school
        • Add classrooms where needed
        • Replace cafeteria’s
      • Milwaukie High School–needs replaced or remodeled. –$64 Million
      • Athletic projects for both softball and baseball
      • Build additional elementary
      • Converts Rock Creek Middle School to High School
      • Land for a future middle school

      • $17 Million towards Rowe Middle School
    • Projects begin as early as Summer 2017
    • Complete most projects by Summer 2021
    • Construction time can be from 3 months to 27 months.
    • Final School Board decision for ballot placement in June

  • Restaurant Fundraiser–Eren Galuega
    • California Pizza Kitchen–They will leave it open over the week.
      • They will provide flyers and we have to bring it in
      • 20% of the ticket will be given to Ardenwald

      • Lynwood will be adding flyers to their students too.
  • Classroom Snacks Budget–Finish spending the remainder of the year ~$100 and vote on new allocations this summer

  • Parent event wasn’t attended so she’s setting up another
    • Would like help with childcare and marketing
    • 4/14:  Board Meeting 7PM-8PM–would like PTO member to come and put in a few words regarding parent involvement
      • Needs Powerpoint slide–needs completed by Friday

  • OMSI Classes brought to school–vote for proposed budget of $3k
    • Each class would get an hour demo or lesson from OMSI staff that would come in
    • OMSI could do a family night

    • Miranda will provide options and we will vote on budget after teacher meeting
  • Time Magazine and IXL
    • Vote to pay for half approved–$931.15
  • School Security Camera–one out back and one in the front.
    • Waiting for estimate for both camera and storage, usually takes a couple of weeks from district
  • Lunch Buddies–Use money left over from Backpack buddies, voted and approved for $250
  • $100 voted and approved from student scholarship for teacher request.

  • Neighborhood Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC)
  • Looking to create a peds and bikes safety plan–making it safe for our children coming to and from school.
    • First–form a school team
    • 2nd–mapping and collecting data from parents and school
      • Student tally and Parent survey.
    • City will keep on file
    • School Team should include: Principal, Parent that has endorsement of the PTO, School Staff Facilitator, will work with City\or Safety Committee
  • Lynwood has an action plan that is available for review
  • Kickoff after the Auction.
  • Readdress at the April Meeting after committee is identified in March.

  • Drop off has a lot of safety issues–Need safety volunteers
    • People park in the drop off zone so there is no flow and kids are crossing through traffic.
  • Right Brain—Embedded Art.  Each class will have a tree in the hallway and it should have it completed by Spring.

  • Kelly created a started packet for new volunteers.

  • Parents concern about door always being open.
    • There is a security camera that is aiming at the door.
    • Bond should give us a redesign of the front where the door will go into the office.
    • What about an electric device that would allow the office staff to buzz someone?
      • Buzzable:  not feasible for effectiveness reasons.
      • What about a passcode—Dr. Webster to research.
    • Can Dr. Webster send out what the different codes and safety procedures will be.

    • Music–Miranda met with Mr. Rintz and the Alphabetacians will join for a reduced rate but they do want it videotaped. Mr. Rintz is willing to help organize but we a volunteer to help run the entertainment aspect.

    • We will be looking for new babysitter.

    • Will be based on trees.
    • Artist will come in and paint a tree and students will “decorate” i.e. Apples
    • Teachers will work with classes on which tree they will choose.
